Wild animals...plus the zoo

9:40 PM

Get ready for a photo dump, because yesterday we went to the Toledo Zoo!  Of course, he wore his jungle animals (and dinosaurs) shirt.

Atticus was awesome almost the entire day.  We took a lot of detours and pit stops, so a one-hour car drive from our house to Toledo, Ohio really took about two hours, but he was a champ.

That hat stayed on for about 2 minutes after this picture was taken--a record.

He was really into the animals at the beginning of the trip.  He would spot something and scream, "Mom!  Dad!  See!" Then squeeze his monkey George and show him the animals too.

His favorite animals were the polar bears, seals, giraffes, and the big exotic birds.  At this point, I'm realizing the only pictures of animals we have are of a hippo's butt.  I'm guessing you don't need me to share that one, but if I get any special requests, I'll oblige.

As the day went on he was less vocal about the animals.  I think it was a combination of the heat, missing his usual nap time, and not getting his usual walking/running in for the day.  He was still very well-behaved though!

By the time we got back to the car he was ready to go-- he even climbed into the car seat by himself which has never happened before in the history of his life.

He was asleep before we hit the expressway and slept until we stopped at the grocery store for supplies for dinner.  At this point he got a little whiney which is totally understandable.  He was even prepared to leave dad at the store if we could just go home already:

He helped Dad clean the yard up a bit while we got ready to grill.  Sean whipped grilled veggies and burgers, plus watermelon and grapes.  It was so. freaking. delicious!

For dessert, I made s'mores in the microwave...with a chocolate almond bar and marshmallows covered in toasted coconut.  Game changer, people.

I think it should go without saying, but we had an awesome day!  Did you do anything fun this weekend?
